open air museums, castles, stone circles, classic city scapes, quaint villages,
scenic countryside and a legendary people.

Northern England Tour

Our England Adventure is a customized discovery holiday that explores some of Britain's landmark villages, historic Roman sites, scenic seaports and rugged seacoasts, Open Air Museums, the majestic rolling Yorkshire Dales countryside, the classic Northumbrian seacoast by Seahouses and the Romantic Lakes, fabled land of Wordsworth, Ruskin and Beatrix Potter. This customized Rug Hooking Holiday Tour of England is a 16 day and 15 night guided excursion that includes a blend of hooking events, such as local hooking club meetings, mini workshops and related seminars, and visits to renowned heritage sites, scenic attractions, and classic cities for Victorian shopping.


The design of this special interest adventure tour provides an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the landscape both motoring and on foot, to meet the people in their villages and to sample the customs of Britain's diverse regions.
The trip is truly a holiday sampler of famous city scapes, scenic villages and fishing seaports, natural attractions, national parks and world heritage sites blended with the lifestyles, traditions and crafts of the English. We will sample, as well, the beverage, food and hospitality in the villages where our British rug hooking companions reside.
We look forward to introducing you to England and providing you with the chance to make new friends from York to Seahouses and everywhere in between.
Our itinerary will provides us three nights in Castleton,"Gem of the Peaks", three nights in the Historic city of York, three nights in romantic Northumbria, the quaint village of Alnwick, three nights in scenic beauty of the Dales, the little village of Reeth, and finally three nights in the fabled home of the National Parks, the Lakes.

Peak District:

Gently rolling hills, Blue John Caverns, Peverill of the Peaks ruined castle, Haddon Hall and the Chatsworth Gardens all adorn our agenda during our stay in the scenic Peaks.

Castleton Village:

The stone village of Castleton is our base for exploring the region including a day trip to Nottingham, Eyam, Bakewell and Winauts Pass .

York Minster:

began in 1220, is awe inspiring from its twin west towers, to the stained glass Rose Window to the interior vaulted stone ceilings, it is undoubtedly one of the world's most famous cathedrals

The Shambles:

the oldest and narrowest streets of York, referenced in the Doomsday Book, it is a wonderful section of town to experience with phenomenal shops, markets and street performers

Bamburgh Castle:

the 14th century stronghold of the Percy family, offers majestic turreted keep, rooms of tapestries, paintings and a notable armament collection as well as magnificent views of Bamburgh Beach

Holy Island and Lindisfarne:

accessible only at low tide, and is home to the ruins of the Lindisfarne Priory and Benedictine Monastery. Also famous for producing Lindisfarne Mead to this day. Lindisfarne Castle rises high above the eastern side of the island on a rocky mound.

Farnes Islands Bird Sanctuary:

a paradise for bird watchers, as the 28 islands host over 70,000 pairs of sea birds during peak nesting times. A seal colony of over 2,000 greys will be seen on our boat trip to the islands off of Seahouses

Vindolanda:

located one mile from Hadrian's wall on the original Roman Road called Stanegate, is an active archeological site which has produced the oldest written records in Britain, dating to 90 a.d.

Beamish Museum:

a traditional open air museum that brings history of northern England alive for the visitor, from the village bakery to the cottages and numerous storefronts

Yorkshire Dales:

famous for Rolling green hillsides, waterfalls and leisure countryside strolls, the Yorkshire Dales National Park environs host us for three days; we explore the Brontes countryside, the land of James Herriot and the Bowes Museum in scenic Barnard Castle.

Windermere Steamer:
Lakes District

we steam launch leisurely on the Swan from Newby Bridge to Bowness where we spend time looking in all the shops, pubs and local museums of the area where National Parks reign supreme.

Classic Lake District:

We explore Hawkshead, visit Beatrix Potter's Hilltop and Gallery, roam the Fabled Lakes of Wordsworth and visit the famous villages of Ambleside, Bowness and Grasmere

Everywhere you look in this unique county you will see the Roman, Viking and Anglo-Saxon chapters of Britain's history book. Activities center around the crafts, culture, heritage and religion depicted in museums, studios, castles and homes of our British friends. From historic York to the sweeping beaches of Bamburgh, through the bucolic Dales and on to the romantic Lakes, we will explore green rolling hillsides, lofty cliffs overlooking the sea, lush woodlands, hidden waterfalls, majestic castle estates, friendly villages, classic cities and magnificent structures both natural and man made.

    Quality Lodging:

    Lodging on all of our tours is selected from a range of high quality, comfortable B & Bs, country manors, small family run hotels, specialty castles, hunting lodges and when necessary for convenience, a western style hotel. We stay most of the tour, either two or three nights in the same place for comfort and relaxation. Travel time and mileage occasionally will require a one night stay.
