Bruce Gurnham of the Whitman Travel Group, Parkers Cove, Nova Scotia takes you on a new Wales and southern England tour of museums, castles, stone circles, historic villages, world heritage sites, scenic seacoasts and more. Our two country adventure is a customized discovery holiday designed for several past Whitman Group travellers. The adventure explores some English and Welsh landmark villages, historic Roman sites, scenic seaports, rugged seacoasts, Open Air Museums all interspersed with such majestic rolling countryside as Brecon Beacons, Dartmoor and so much more.

Our England and Wales adventure encompasses a bit of Roman history in Chester, then an inroduction to Welsh life in such villages as Llandudno, Caernarfon, as well as the classic Welsh seacoast resorts of Aberystwyth, Pembroke and beyond. Our guided excursion continues from the scenic Pembrokeshire Coast into St. Fagans Museum of Welsh Life and then across the famous Severn River Bridge into South West England. Bath, Wells, Cheddar Gorge, King Arthurs Legendary Castle at Tintagel, St. Ives, Falmouth, Mevagissey, Exeter and so many more villages grace our travel itinerary.

This specialty tour is a traditional Whitman Travel "Sampler" of British and Welsh historic sites, locales of natural beauty and classic attractions all skillfully blended with leisure walks, unusual adventures, birdwatching and periodic surprise venues along our route. Like all of our adventures, this 13 day 12 night guided excursion incorporates our activities and attractions with visits to our friends. Here we can share in the beverage, food and glorious hospitality of our British and Welsh hosts.

Our travel itinerary will afford us two night stays everywhere (except one) along the journey, beginning with Roman Chester(Nites #1, ). From here we travel west along the northern seacoast of Wales to Llandudno(Nites #2, 3), our base for exploring Conwy Castle, and the resort town of Llandudno. Our next home will be the Victorian resort town of Aberyswyth(Nites #4, 5). From here we explore Port Merion, Caenarfon Castle, and Anglesey. Traveling via Devils Gorge, Fishguard and Castell Henllys we arrive in Penbroke(Nites #6, 7). Enroute to our next stop, we visit St. Fagans Museum of Welsh Life. The final 5 nights of the tour are spent in 3 locales all within South West England. Ilfracombe on the north Devon coast is home for two nights(Nites #8, 9, ) followed by two nights(Nites #10, 11) in Cornwall's scenic St. Ives. The last night of our adventure is spent on the southern coast of England, in the "English Riviera" town of Exeter(Night #12 ). We depart early in the morning for London Heathrow, on the last day of our adventure. An optional last night stay is available in London at a nominal additional cost.

Activities, Attractions and Scenery

Although these two common land bordered countries are very different, noticeable by the language for example, they are repleat with common threads. You can see this with the Roman and Viking influences, in the Anglo-Saxon chapters of Britain's history book and most in the absolute natural beauty that both countries have to offer the visitor. Our activities center around the crafts, culture, heritage and religion depicted in museums, studios, castles and homes of our British and Welsh friends. From historic Roman Chester in Cheshire to mystical King Arthur land of Tintagel, and on to the sandy and cliffside coasts of both southern Wales and England, we will explore green rolling hillsides, lofty cliffs overlooking the sea, lush woodlands, hidden waterfalls, majestic castle estates, friendly villages and classic cities.
